Shivamogga Airport expected to be commissioned within a year: BSY

Shivamogga: Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa said the airport which is being constructed in Sogane, outskirts Shivamogga, has been allocated a total of Rs 384 crore is expected to be commissioned within the year.

He spoke to reporters after reviewing the construction work of the airport on Tuesday.

The runway and compound construction work are in progress in the first phase. The second stage is to commence a terminal building and a tender process is underway. All of the works were instructed to run in conjunction with no shortage of grants. He said the airport work was going as fast as expected and was instructed to complete the project even faster.
Locally, a 4-acre quarry is provided to work without any obstruction. Two months later, the airport will be reviewed again. It is a full-fledged airport and can accommodate night flights. He said industrial growth in the region would be helpful because of the airport.
Further, He said, “There is no change in government policy regarding BPL cards. But this should be available only to the poor. I have instructed the rich to avoid getting a BPL card. Those who have illegally obtained a BPL card must return it voluntarily. Otherwise, The instructions have been given to the district commissioner to identify and fine the illegally obtained BPL card users.  

Meeting of Union Sports Minister: Several projects are being implemented to develop sports infrastructure in Shimoga. It is in this backdrop that Union Sports Minister Kiran Rijiju will visit Shimoga on February 21 to fulfill several tasks.

Rs. 4 crores are given to the  Sahyadri College to construct the Indoor Stadium and Under Smart City Project at a cost of Rs.4 crores sanctioned. MP B.Y Raghavendra said that the minister would also undertake a site inspection to establish a special sports zone in Shimoga.

MLA Ashok Naik, Ayanur Manjunath, Rudregowda, DC K.B Shivakumar were present.
