Shivamogga: A tense situation prevailed at Ranganathapura, Shikaripura after a Dargah building was demolished to facilitate the road widening work on Saturday, August 4.
Several people gathered at the spot objecting to the demolition of the building and got into a verbal spat with the officials on the issue. The police had to resort to mild lathicharge to control the situation. Later, as a precautionary measure, the Shivamogga police deployed a tight security at the area.
Superintendent of Police Abhinav Khare visited the spot. Since the road from Anandapur to Shikaripura road is being widened, the administration decided to demolish a Dargah Complex in Ranganathapur. A notice regarding the demolition had been issued to authorities.
The officials, it is learnt had been requested to not go ahead with the Dargah demolition since it has been existing at the place for a long time now. However, the request was overturned by the officials.
