Shivamogga: The Natural Disaster Management Authority will help us take precautionary measures to avoid a disaster like the one Kodagu faced. For this, I have brought two experts from Bengaluru to Shivamogga at my own expense because, as district in-charge minister, the safety of the district’s people is my first priority, said District in-charge minister, DC Thammanna on Saturday, September 29.
Addressing the media at the Deputy Commissioner’s office Thammanna said, “We are planning to take precautionary measures to avoid a disaster, similar to that of Kodagu, from happening in Shivamogga. The Natural Disaster Management Authority will help us.”
He informed that a study of different parts of the district will be conducted by the experts as part of it is a hilly and green area. “If there is a natural disaster, it will be easier for them to connect with all the departments and help us. This study will also help us make precautionary arrangements and support us in curbing illegal mining. These days illegal cutting of trees, encroachment of land and illegal construction of buildings is affecting the environment. As a result, nature will go against us, that is what happened to Kodagu,” the minister added.
Before addressing media, Minister Thammanna flagged off three Jannrum buses to Anveri, Maidolalu, and Mallapura.
