Shivamogga: The long-pending ring road project is all set to see the light of the day with the Railway Department finally agreeing to clear the decks from its end.
The project could not be complete as the Railway Department denied to hand over its land near the blood bank at KEB Circle, Vinoba Nagar, Shivamogga for the said project. The department had banned heavy vehicles here and had allowed only light vehicles and two-wheelers. This stand of the railways led to heavy vehicles travelling past the Shivamurthy Circle and Court Circle.
However, at the request of Shivamogga MP BY Raghavendra, a Railway Department delegation comprising Hubbali DRM AK Singh, Mysuru DRM Aparna Garag and Rajiv Agarwal visited the site today, August 25.
Speaking to the reporters, Raghavendra said that the Railway Department would be allotted land somewhere else in exchange for the Ring Road property. He also said that the Shivamogga Railway Station is now equipped with a lift and other infrastructural facilities.
The delegation also visited ongoing projects such as the constuction of a railway overbridge along the Shivamogga-Holehonnur road, a satellite station near Kote Ganguru, and a new Shivamogga-Shikaripura-Rane Benoor route.
The railway officials also promised the construction of a railway overbridge over the Savalanga Road and a new route to Bellary via Shivamogga-Beeru-Chitradurga.
In addition, the Railway Department has obliged and fulfilled the request made by Vidyanagar resident Thimmappa to add more bogies to the night-train travelling to Talguppa and Bengaluru.
