Chickmagalur:A rape case has been filed against BJP MLA from Shringeri and former minister D.S. Jeevaraj on November 8, Friday, said Chikmagalur District Superintendent of Police Abhishek Goyal.
“A young woman has lodged a complaint on Friday charging the MLA of rape stating that the crime was committed in 2010. The MLA has been booked under IPC Sections 366, 354, 376 and 506. There is a possibility of arresting the MLA with due permission of the Assembly speaker,” the SP said.
However, Jeevaraj has refuted the allegations against him and has vowed in the name of Shringeri Sharadambe saying he has not committed the crime. “The brother-in-law of the young woman was blackmailing me and when I failed to bow to pressure, a rape case has been filed against me,” he said.
It may be interesting to wait and watch the developments in this case in the days to come. Beyond doubt this issue will be a major blow to the BJP in the event of the arrest of the MLA.
