Progress meet at DC office: Drinking water, farmers loan waiver discussed

Shivamogga: “As summer is approaching, it is very essential to take precautionary measures in terms of adequate supply of drinking water, not only for the villagers but also for people living in cities”, said District Nodal Secretary, Chakravarti Mohan to officials, here on Thursday, March 7.

Chakravarti Mohan discussed the matter during the progress meet held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office hall.

He pointed out issues regarding drinking water facilities such as pipeline installation and identifying water source locations among many other measures.

“Around 216 villages will be facing drinking water issues this time, for which apt measures need to be undertaken. Though there is a 24X7 water facility implemented in urban areas, issues pertaining to constant water supply still exists, which must be rectified”, said Nodal Secretary.

Chakravarti also gave directions to the concerned officers on recycling of water, waste water management and several other projects which are to be implemented under the ‘Smart City’ project.

Regarding the drought-hit areas of the district such as Shivamogga, Bhadravati, Shikaripura and Soraba towns, he said that around Rs. 1 crore is already sanctioned and the money must be utilized aptly.

Speaking about the Anganwadi centres, he directed the officers saying, “We have decided to shift all the Anganwadi’s to permanent structures, which are now running under rented structures. Around 200 new Anganwadi centres are to be constructed and the land for 102 centres are already specified. The land identification process for other centres should be done as soon as possible”.

“Around 252 Anganwadi centres are currently running under rented buildings”, he added.

Speaking about the farmers’ loan waiver, Deputy Commissioner K A Dayanand said, “About 33,886 beneficiaries are identified in which 5,004 are already benefitted, and this will continue stage by stage”.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Poornima, Zilla Panchayat CEO, Shivarame Gowda and other district level officers were present on the occassion.
