Shivamogga: "The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will win the LS polls in more than 22 constituencies", said senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council, K S Eshwarappa, while he was campaigning on foot for Shivamogga constituency's party candidate B Y Raghavendra, at the city's Fort Road.
"Revanna's lemon offerings will not help in winning the election. During the previous general election, H D Devegowda had said that he would leave the country if Narendra Modi became the prime minister. Now his son Revanna is saying that if Modi becomes the prime minister again, he will retire from politics. There is no need for Devegowda to leave the country or Revanna to retire from politics but it would be appreciable if they stop lying," said Eshwarappa.
When asked about Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's statement that Modi should once again become the prime minister of India, Eshwarappa said "Only brave and powerful people can take bold decisions. Imran Khan has understood the power of the Indian Army and PM Modi and now he realises that Pakistan will not survive if it does not cease fighting with India. That is the reason Imran Khan has issued such a statement."
Eshwarappa said, "Myself and Siddaramaiah criticising each other is a common thing in politics." Condemning Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy's statement that the media personnel could be attacked, Eshwarappa said, "If the chief minister is aware that the media personnel could be attacked why is he not taking up any measures to stop it? If he cannot address such things, let him resign from his post and replace himself with someone capable of tackling such incidents.
"Indira Gandhi misused her power during the 'Emergency' and curtailed the freedom of the press. And now Kumaraswamy, even though he knows that the press could be attacked, is not doing anything to stop it. The BJP will fight for the rights of the press," he added.
Shivamogga District President S Rudregowda, MLC Ayanur Manjunath, Shivamogga City Corporation Mayor Latha Ganesh, S N Channabasappa, D S Arun, District BJP Secretary S Jnaneshwar, City BJP President Nagraj, State BJP Yuva Morcha General Secretary B Y Vijayendra, H N Manjunath, Madhusoodhan, Hirannaiah and many others were present.
