Shivamogga: The nationwide bundh called by the Congress-led opposition to protest against the rising fuel prices, saw huge success in Shivamogga on September 10. A large number of Congress leaders and their followers carried out a procession with bullock carts.
Transportation in the city was disrupted as there was no availability of private or public buses and autorickshaws.
The protest march began at the Ramanna Shresti Park and ended at Gopi Circle while passing through Gandi Bazaar, Shivappanayaka Circle, Ameer Ahmed Circle and Nehru Road. At the destination, various party leaders spoke against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP administration and raised slogans against them.
They accused Modi of lying to the people and making false promises. Day by day, the price of basic necessities like cooking gas and petrol is getting higher. Now that the people have woken up, they will teach the BJP a lesson in the 2019 elections, they said.
They also accused Modi of being only for businessmen such as Ambani, Adani, Nirav etc. “BSNL will soon be under the Ambani group. What, then, will be left in India as he has made everything for the corporates and his friends. People have now realised that he is only a ‘Jumlabaaz’ and a supporter of his friends,” they said.
They also hit out at Modi and the BJP of getting anyone who opposed them or spoke against them arrested.
Former MLA K B Prasannakumar, Congress District President Tina Srinivas, MLC Prasanna Kumar, Sundaresh, Ismail Khan, Ramesh, Chinnappa and other Congress leaders were present.
