Shivamogga: Member of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party B Y Raghavendra has decided to upgrade the Tyavarekoppa Lion and Tiger Safari and take it to the top of the list of safaris in the country, here on Thursday, February 7.
Addressing the media in the BJP office here, he said, “Currently, the safari is restricted to only eight acres and animals within this range only can be seen by the tourist. The plan is to extend the safari to upto 100 acres.”
“If we get the blueprint from the Centre, then this safari will undoubtedly top the charts. The only difficulty is to get the blueprint at first”, he added.
Raghavendra said, “Around Rs. 35 Crore is the estimated amount that would be required to develop the safari and I hope we get the blueprint as I’ve already spoken to the department in Delhi during my recent visit.”
The Tyavarekoppa Lion and Tiger Safari which began in 1988, is spread across 250 acres of land.
This safari stands second in the state after Bannerghatta Safari, in terms of lions and tigers.
