Shivamogga: The 10-day protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC), and National Population Register (NPR), organized by the Joint Action Committee, ended on Friday, February 15, with a submission of a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner K B Shivakumar.
The protest, which was carried out in a manner similar to that of Shaheen Bagh in Delhi, was named ‘Idgah Bagh’.
Addressing the gathering, orator Najma Nazeer said, “We vote for our candidates during the elections by producing our voter ID as a proof. If the CAA doesn’t recognize the voters’ ID as a proof of an individual’s citizenship, then Shivamogga BJP MP B Y Raghavendra, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and Prime Minister Narendra Modi do not qualify as elected representatives and leaders.”
Meanwhile, the Joint Action Committee has said that the protest has temporarily been halted.
“As the Supreme Court will be taking up the CAA issue on February 22, we will decide on further action based on its verdict. We urge the Centre to revoke the CAA, NRC and NPR,” said the committee.
