Shivamogga: “Following a drop in the number of children being given polio drops, the Health and Family Welfare Department, under the National Health Campaign initiative, is organising “Indradhanush” polio camp from November 23 to December 3 in the district”, said Deputy Commissioner K A Dayanand.

Addressing the media regarding the same in the DC office, Dayanand said, “The districts that have shown improvement in the fight against polio are less than 50 percent like Chikkamagaluru, Chitradurga, Shivamogga, Gadag, and Mysuru. This programme is initiated by the order of the government.”

“This programme is being organized keeping in mind the children from the age group of 0-6 years from both the city as well as the backward rural areas”, he added.

Dayanand said that for this polio campaign, all the Health Department officials, staff including the Asha-Anganwadi workers too were given training and a thorough survey was conducted.

He has instructed the officials in charge of this polio campaign to avoid any uneven circumstances which were observed in the previous camps.

Earlier, Dayanand had inspected the documents on the birth and mortality rate from which it is understood that among the 2172 born, around 40 infants had died, due to lack of medical facility and ailments.

He said, “Inspite of having all the medical facilities, the mortality rate is a shocker and raises suspicion on the working of the officials concerned.”

He instructed District Health Officer Dr. Nataraj to provide information based on the lack of initiatives in the medical facilities.

Meanwhile, Dayanand also warned the officials that they would not be spared if the infants died because of negligence by the hospitals, themselves and lack of medical facilities.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Secretary Dr. Ranganath, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. Venkatesh and many other officials were present in the meet.
