Shivamogga: “Currently the KSRTC is facing huge loss. There is a financial turmoil and efforts are in place to boost the income of the department”, said D C Thammanna, Transport and the District In-Charge Minister on September 15.
He flagged five new KSRTC buses from Shivamogga and inaugurated a Child Care Centre within the premises.
Thammanna said, “The KSRTC has incurred Rs 500 Crore-600 Crore loss. The prime reason being a hike in the diesel price, The department has decided to increase the bus fare.”
“A commercial counter will be established in every bus stand and a special counter of the MSIL (Mysore Sales International Limited) to generate revenue for the government”, he added.
Thammanna said, “KSRTC used to have the buses which have to run 5 lakh to 6 lakh kilometers sent directly to scrap. But from now on, the old chassis will be retained and only the body will be installed newly. By this humongous amount of money can be saved and invested on roads.”
He said that the basic facilities will be upgraded and cleanliness will be maintained for the betterment of the travellers. Like in Child Care Centre which provides napkins and disposal facility for the same, they will be made available in every bus stand of the state, he added.
