Shimoga (DHNS): Shimoga MP and former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa has stated that people of the State need not be disheartened as he is not taking oath as Union Cabinet minister on May 26.

Addressing the BJP workers’ meet at the party office here on Saturday, he said, “Prime minister-designate Narendra Modi’s speech at the Central Hall of the Parliament in New Delhi recently, has left a deep impact on me. By being a member of Parliament, I have decided to strengthen the party.

There is a need to bring the defeated candidates of the BJP and the disgruntled leaders who quit the party for various reasons, together. I am doing this with the intention of bringing the saffron party back to power in the State. Hence, the question of becoming a Union minister does not arise,” he added.

Suitable steps

He said he would take suitable steps to change the destiny of the State with assistance from the Modi-led government, and asserted that he never aspired to become a member of  Parliament. “I decided to face the Lok Sabha polls following directions from party leaders,” he added.

Referring to the letter addressed to Modi, Yeddyurappa said he wrote to him after being influenced by the latter’s speech.

“I am neither aiming for any ministerial berth nor post. BJP President Rajnath Singh has failed to understand this. I will meet him in New Delhi on May 26 and clarify this to him and follow his advice.”
