Shivamogga:  The state forest department is in the line of fire after reports that it used poisonous powder sachets to keep the wild animals away from the bamboo plantations. This incident was reported from the Agumbe forest area in Shivamogga district.

According to the locals, the department used the chemical sachets to keep the wild animals away from the bamboo plantation. However, those in the vicinity who came to know about this were worried that the chemical might blend with the rainwater and affect the health of the flora, fauna, and the residents of the area. They then escalated their concerns to the concerned authorities.  The sachets were found tied to the bamboo plants in Karekumbri.

According to the authorities, these sachets are removed after locals expressed their anger.
