Shivamogga: Chandrashekar, a farmer from Shivamogga near Mandlikaluru, on July 1, found that his bullock was missing from the shed where he had tied it. Surprised, he went in search of his bullock when he spotted some thieves who had killed his animal and were loading its meat into a car, a Maruthi 800.

He immediately called some of the other villagers and together, they chased the thieves’ car on their bikes till it reached Tippunagara in Tunganagar limits, where the thieves abandoned their car causing a traffic block.

Chandrashekar’s suspicions were proved right when the bell and rope which he used to tie the animal were found in the car.

The car, as well as the meat, has been confiscated by the police.

As the news of the incident spread, people including some Hindu organisations joined in a demonstration in front of the Tunganagara Police Station and demanded that the thieves be arrested. The police later assured them that the thieves would be caught within 48 hours, after which the protesters dispersed.
