Shivamogga: Owing to heavy rains in the catchment areas of the Tunga Reserviour over the last two days, the water level in the reservoir increased and a few of the crest gates were opened from Saturday night.
Superintendent Engineer Phaniraju said that the Tunga reservoir has a storage capacity of 3.24 TMC. In the entire state, the Tunga reservoir is usually the first to attain its maximum water level. As there is good rainfall in the catchment areas of the reservoir, it gets 9000 cusecs water inflow and outflow. Five gates of the reservoir have already been opened. Fifteen gates will be partially opened for water outflow.
Bhadra reservoir
The water level in the Bhadra reservoir has not yet reached the dead storage level, which is about 116 feet, as it has the capacity to store 76 TMC of water, being the largest in the state.
The Bhadra reservoir is two times bigger than the KRS Dam.
Officers have informed that the reservoir can store water up to 183 feet. As the there has been very low rainfall in the catchment area, the water level has risen by only two inches in the reservoir.
