Shivamogga: The Congress party has pulled up its socks focusing on the upcoming elections by bringing in host of campaigning formats.
Addressing news conference on Thursday, May 24, SP Dinesh from Shivamogga who is Congress candidate for the South-West graduates’ constituency for the Legislative Council elections, said that the Congress in the district has already started workshop and conventions in various constituencies in wake of the legislative council polls.
“Such conventions were held successfully in Puttur and Sullia constituencies, and in coming days it will be held in all constituencies of Dakshina Kannada,” he said adding that to strengthen the party in the district for the upcoming assembly elections, the party has taken initiatives like ‘one booth one leader’ and ‘one booth ten youth’ concept. Every Congress member, irrespective of his position, has to work for his booth, he said.
MLC elections will be held next month. As per the direction of AICC, SP Dinesh has already started campaigning for the elections. SP Dinesh had contested the last elections held in 2012 for South-West graduates’ constituency, but had lost with a very narrow margin against BJP’s veteran leader DH Shankarmurthy. The South-West Graduates’ constituency comprises Shivamogga, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikmagalur, and Kodagu districts, and Honnali and Channagiri taluks of Davangere district.
Dinesh, a Lingayat community leader is an advocate by profession.
He visited Sacred Heart Church in the city and sought blessings from Fr. Gilbert Lobo before he addressed press meet. SP Sheshadri, Yogish, Chinnappa, Jyothi, Aralappa, and Anand Babu mong others were present.
