Shivamogga: As BJP continued their celebrations, Congress party protested against Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala’s decision to invite B S Yeddyurappa to form the government in Karnataka on May 17.

The protesters chanted slogans condemning Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Karnataka Governor, and said that Governor had acted in haste and his actions were against the Constitution of India. “Narendra Modi has forgotten that he is the Prime Minister of India”, they alleged.

The Congress workers criticised the governor for not allowing the Congress-JDS post poll coalition to form the government and accused the Governor of being a “BJP agent.” They also submitted a memorandum at DC Office regarding the same.

The fractured electoral mandate in Karnataka has erupted into a controversy over who should come to power. Earlier today, B S Yeddyurappa was sworn in as the 23rd Chief Minister of Karnataka despite the BJP being short of 8 MLAs for a simple majority in the 224 seat Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He has to prove his majority on the floor of the House within 15 days through a “Vote of Confidence.”

Meanwhile, Congress-JDS claim that they have the majority in the Assembly and put forward H D Kumaraswamy’s name for the post of chief minister. They alleged that the decision of the Governor to allow the BJP to form the government is an invitation for corrupt practices to take root as the MLAs were being pressured into changing sides.
