Shivamogga: Taking exception to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that the Congress is dividing the ‘Veerashaivas’ and because of this the coalition ministers are fighting out one another, Congress leader and Minister DK Shivakumar has said that the PM must be ashamed of his statement.
Addressing a news conference in Shivamogga on Friday, April 19, DKShi said that the Congress has never attempted to break any religion.
“The BJP government and the ‘Akhila Bharat Veerashaiva Mahasabha’ had demanded minority status for the ‘Veerashaivas’ when Manmohan Singh was the PM. We only carried it forward, ” he said adding that the representations were made by BJP leaders BS Yeddyurappa, Jagadish Shettar among others and when the demand was not met they became frustrated.
“I apologised to the people only when the issue turned into a crisis. I realised that most people were against it,” he said.
Continuing his attack on PM Modi, DKShi said that instead of talking about his own accomplishments, Modi is busy talking only about the Congress party.
“He had made big promises five years ago. Today, it is the time to talk about the achievements and we find none being communicated,” he said.
