Shivamogga: The Joint Action Committee had organized a protest rally against CAA and NRC on Saturday, December 29 in the city.
Addressing the gathering, High Court advocate Balan said, “CAA is against humanity. Not giving citizenship based on religion is against the Indian Constitution. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are up for unconstitutional practices. CAA, NRC and NPR are all the same. By implementing all this, it will be affecting Article 14, 17, and 21 of the Indian Constitution. The BJP has amended this Act with a strategy.”
“CAA is not only against Muslims but it is also against the Hindus. It will affect Dalits and downtrodden too. Now, the BJP has touched upon religious factors, tomorrow they will dig into caste matters. They say that minorities from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh are allowed to come to India, but not the ones from Sri Lanka. What kind of a rule and Act is this? Is it only because there are no ‘Brahmin Hindus’ there? This shows that CAA is imposed based on religion”, he added.
Balan further said, “There are a different set of people living in the country. There are tribals, illiterates, exploited section and many more. There is no logic applied in terms of giving citizenship to such. When the BJP is rooted in a Hindu country, why are they bothered about those Hindus living in other countries? A Hindu in Pakistan and Bangladesh will always be a Pakistani and Bangladeshi, respectively. Similarly, a Muslim in India will remain an Indian. It is not right to make a separate law for Muslims and sidelining them.”
“To avail the citizenship of this country, people living in this country shall produce a list of documents, but people coming from outside need not produce anything. What kind of a rule is it? That is the reason I’m saying that CAA, NRC and NPR are against humanity. This Act should be revoked. People who were slaves have now assumed power and have become the ‘protector’ of the Indian Constitution. Humanity ihas reached to a point of extinction under the BJP regime,” he said.
Several activists and leaders were present.
