BSY inaugurates developmental projects, assures of airport in nine months

Shivamogga: “Two years from now, the district will be transformed beyond your expectations and imagination,” said Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa.

Speaking during the inauguration of several developmental projects worth a total of Rs 293 crores, he said, “The development projects will be completed in such a manner that no work will be pending when the next government comes to power. The airport construction process, which was almost stopped, will resume within a week. As much as Rs 45 crores has been sanctioned for this purpose.”

“The airport will be made fully operational in nine months. Once this is over, several industries will be invited to the district,” he added.

Speaking on the road construction work, BSY said, “About 80 per cent of the land acquisition process for the four-lane work of the Tumakuru-Shivamogga road has been completed. Tenders have been called for the Shivamogga-Horavarthula road work. The establishment of a Rapid Action Force (RAF) in Bhadravathi has also been completed. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be invited for the stone laying ceremony of these works.”

“An Ayurveda University will be established in the district. To develop the tourism, a meeting with Infosys Foundation founder Dr Sudha Murthy will be held. A Rs 420-crore Sigandur bridge project will be initiated soon. For the development of the Jog Falls, Rs 10 crores will be sanctioned and for the sound and light show in the Shivappa Nayaka Palace, Rs 2 crores will be sanctioned,” the CM added.

Meanwhile, he urged the businessmen to donate more money towards the flood relief work as the state government treasury doesn’t have enough reserves. He informed that, till date, Rs 400 crores have been received through donations from the people of the state and the business class.

Several parts of North Karnataka, that have been affected by the floods, will be visited to check on how the relief work is progressing, he informed.

Responding to Deputy Mayor Basappa’s demand that the freedom park be named after freedom fighter Chandrasekhar Azad, BSY assured that the matter will be decided in the Cabinet meeting.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament B Y Raghavendra said that a meeting with Jio and BSNL will be convened to establish about 100 network towers and implement the best internet services, upto 5G.

Rural Development Minister K S Eshwarappa, MLC Ayanur Manjunath, Zilla Panchayat president Jyoti S Kumar and others were present.
