Shivamogga: Members of District Youth Congress Committee protested in front of BJP leader K S Eshwarappa’s residence at Malleshwara Nagar also known as Gundappa Shed here on Friday condemning his insensitive remarks against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister K J George.

Eshwarappa had reportedly said in Bangalore that the home minister and the chief minister would not take any action even if their daughters are raped.

The protesters urged the BJP leader to withdraw his remarks and apologise to the chief minister and the home minister in public. He should not have used such a language being in a responsible position. It shows the culture of the BJP leaders, they said.

Police rushed to the spot and arrested 30 activists of Youth Congress and released them later.

BJP State president Pralhad Joshi too on Friday regretted his party colleague K S Eshwarappa’s remarks on rape.

“Eshwarappa should not have made such comments. I will not approve of such remarks by any leader of our party. I will advise him against making such comments,” Joshi told reporters here.

The chief minister, too, strongly condemned the statement. Describing the remarks as “cheap,” Siddaramaiah said those who are cultured and civilised would not speak in that manner.

As a leader of the Opposition, he should speak in a manner that befits his position, he said.
