As many as 53 projects in Shivamogga under Smart City project

Shivamogga: Shivamogga City Corporation Commissioner and the Managing Director of Shivamogga Smart City Ltd. Charulatha Somal, in a press conference which was held on Wednesday, 26 June, has said that the Shivamogga Smart City Ltd company had decided to implement 53 projects within the limits of the city corporation at a cost of Rs 968.32 Crore, under the 5-year Smart City project.

“The central and the state governments have released a fund of Rs 111 Crore each for the Smart City project. A total of Rs 1,000 Crore will be released in five years for the project. The released amount will be used for the developmental works including projects directed by the central and state governments. Developmental works will also be undertaken in collaboration with the private institutes. Nine government projects will be undertaken at a cost of Rs 328.52 Crore and six private projects will be taken up at a cost of Rs 355 Crore,” said Charulatha Somal.

“Out of the 53 intended projects, 2 projects have been completed and 26 are in progress. A tender has been called for 13 projects which will cost Rs 326.83 Crore. Eight project reports have been authorised which will cost Rs 99.84 Crore. Six projects costing Rs 32 Crore are in the inception stages,” she said.

“A total of 5 packages have been made to undertake various projects including installation of underground power cables, new lamp posts and rain water sewers at a cost of Rs 366.70 Crore. Five exclusive packages have also been made for the development of conservancies,” said the City Corporation commissioner.

“Along with the development of Sagar road and Ring road, Dr. SPM road will be converted into a heritage footpath. As many as 17 parks will be renovated. An Integrated Command and Control Centre will be implemented using the information technology network to efficiently manage and oversee the administrative functioning of all the facilities of the city. This will facilitate the Police Department to maintain law and order,” she added.

“Smart City projects can be started on a full swing only after the other pending projects are completed. Underground drainage work, 24/7 drinking water facility and MESCOM underground cable works are in progress. Smart City project will be started after all these works are completed,” said Charulatha Somal.
