Shivamogga: The closure of Agumbe ghat for repair works has been postponed due to the ongoing PUC examinations, which commenced on March 1.
Initially, the district administration had decided to close down the road from March 1 to 31. However, Deputy Commissioner KA Dayananda has said that the plan has been changed.
“The stretch will be closed from March 19 to April 19 in wake of the PUC examination,” said the DC adding that the National Highway Authority of India will accordingly start the repair work on March 19.
During this closure, light vehicles like jeeps, vans, minivans, two-wheelers can take Theerthalli-Koppa-Sringeri- Malaghat- Karkala-Udupi route.
Heavy vehicles like buses, lorries, bullet tankers, ship cargo containers and long chassis vehicles can take Theerthalli- Masthikatte-Hosangadi-Siddhapur-Kundapura-Udupi route.
Though the road will be closed for one month, DC has said that in case the works are completed faster, the road would be opened immediately on completion of work.
Landslides had occurred at a couple of places across the ghat from July 10 to 13 last year. A permanent solution for the landslide problem has been worked out, said the DC.
