Will “The Villain” collect Rs 100 crores?

If there is one topic, which is being spoken on social media over the last two weeks, then it is about “The Villain”. The film, which released on October 18 has met a mixed response. While some have loved the film, some have not and if this was not enough, some of the hardcore fans of Shivarajkumar have crossed limits to put down the maker of the film, citing lame reasons that the film gives more prominence to Sudeep.

Earlier this week, the distributors of “The Villain” held a press conference, wherein they claimed that the film has beaten all records in Sandalwood. Even though they did not reveal exact figures, they said that the film has approximately collected Rs 60 crores in its first extended week. These figures have shocked trade analysts, who feel that the box office figure has been hyped up. They opine that the film may have collected near Rs 40 to 45 crore and not more.

The distributors also claimed that the film will reach Rs 100 crore club in 15 days. Now the big question is, will the film touch this magic figure as till date no Kannada film has managed to reach there. Even the highest grossing Kannada film- “Raajakumara” had touched Rs 60 cr collection. However, analyst says that though there are strong possibilities of “The Villain” beating the record of “Raajakumara”, reaching Rs 100 cr club looks difficult.

Meanwhile, “The Villain” team will start post-release promotion and as part of this, they have hired a special chopper to travel to different parts of Karnataka to promote the film.
