Prem directorial “The Villain” has opened to record-breaking collections. The film, which brings superstars Shivrajkumar and Kiccha Sudeep on one screen, has reportedly grossed more than Rs 20 crores on its opening day!! This is the highest collection, not only for a Kannada film but for any film in Karnataka. It has even reportedly beaten the first-day gross collections of “Baahubali 2” in Karnataka.
“The Villain” has also beaten the first-day collections of “Hebbulli”, which was reportedly the highest ever first-day collection of any Kannada film. However, the film is expected to see a drop in collections today. According to a trade analyst, the film is expected to touch Rs 50 crores in the first week.
The film, which was reportedly made on budget of 40 crores, has already recovered half of its investment with the sale of satellite, digital, dubbing and music rights. With these collections, the film will surely enter into the profit zone in the first weekend.
While some of the audience have given a poor review for the film, most of them have given a good response. It looks like Prem is finally back after the “Joggayya” debacle. We do not know, where the film will head to, but one thing is for sure… Prem has opened a new market for Kannada films.
