The making of ‘Rebel Star’ Ambareesh

Ambareesh was lovingly called as Rebel Star by his fans. Known for his angry young man image, Ambareesh was loved by one and all. Called as Ajata Shatru (one who has made no enemies) in films as well as in politics, he died due to cardiac arrest on November 24. He was the pillar of the film industry and would be the first to solve the crisis in the industry. He has helped many in the film industry and was called as ‘Dhaanashoora Karna’ for his charitable works.

Born as Malavalli Huchche Gowda Amaranath on May 29, 1952, in Maddur taluk of Mandya district, he was the grandson of legendary violinist T Chowdaiah. Ambareesh made his debut with evergreen classic “Nagarahavu” and went on to act in 208 films in his four-and-a-half decade career.

His last film as an actor was ‘Ambi Ning Vayassaitho’, which released a couple of months back. However, his last official release on the screen will be Darshan-starrer Kurukshetra, which is expected to be out next year. Ambareesh will be seen in the role of Bheeshma in the film.

Ambareesh was called as Angry Young Man in 1980s. His popular films as lead are Antha, Ranganayaki, Tony, Rani Maharani, Olavina Udugore, Hrudaya Haadithu, Hongkongnalli Agent Amar, Mannina Doni, Masanada Hoovu, Elu Suttina Kote, Habba, Diggajaru and Odahuttidavaru. After 2002, he started taking up character roles. As a character artist, he was also part of many blockbusters, some of them are Bulul, Veera Parampare, Drama, Veera Parampare and Dodmane Huduga.

He has worked with all big stars from his generation to current generation. Known as a great friend, he is very close to stars of other film industries like Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi, Shatrughan Sinha and Mohan Babu.

After Dr Rajkumar and Vishnuvardhan passed away, Ambareesh took all the responsibility on his shoulder to guide the film industry. However, with his death, there is a big vacuum. Known for his straightforward nature, Amabreesh was loved by one and all and an oceanic crowd that gathered to bid a last adieu to him shows that he had touched several lives.
