No other Kannada movie, in the entire 81-year history of Sandalwood, has achieved something that the Shivarajkumar-starrer Om has. The movie, which was first released in 1995, has been re-released a whopping 550 times since!
Theatre owners are known to fall back on Omwhenever they don’t get a new movie to release. The film has been screened in 400 theatres across Karnataka, and if one looks at the numbers, then it would mean that the movie has been released once every two weeks.
Upendra directed Shivarajkumar for the first time in this movie and the blockbuster was lauded for its direction. Shivanna won the Filmfare Best Actor Award for the movie, along with the Karnataka State Film Awards Best Actor Award. Apart from him, Prema also won the State Award for Best Actress, Upendra for Best Screenplay and BC Gowrishankar for Best Cinematographer.
