Bengaluru: Kannada film industry which is popularly called as the Sandalwood created a new record in the year 2018. For the first time in the last 84 years, in 2018, the number of movies released has crossed the 200 mark. According to Sandalwood sources, thus far in this year, 204 movies have been released. If the trend continues this number may cross 225 before the end of this year, it is predicted.
According to the Karnataka Film Chamber General Secretary Bha Ma Harish, out of these 2014 films, three films were produced with investments of above Rs 15 Crore while 15 films were produced with an investment between Rs 10 Crore and Rs 15 Crore. The highest number of films (125 films) have been made with an investment below Rs 5 Crore but above Rs 1 Crore.
“It is a positive sign. Digital revolution has resulted in this increase in the number of movies,” he said.
