Mangaluru: It seems that director Adarsh H Eshwarappa has forgone traditional movie theatres as he is all set to release his next film on a streaming platform. Adarsh’s directorial debut titled ‘Shuddhi’ recieved a lot of praise from audiences. However, the Sandalwood director has decided that his second movie ‘Bhinna’ will only be released on the digital platform “Zee5”.
This is the first time a Sandalwood director will be releasing a movie directly online. The movie’s production house, Purple Rock Entertainers, is also on board with this move as Zee5 has reportedly acquired the film at a price double its budget.
The film, said to be a tribute to legendary director Puttanna Kanagal, stars Paayal Radhakrishna, Sowmya Jaganmurthy, Shashank Purushotham and Siddharth Madhyamika.
Adarsh decided to release the movie via an online channel as theatre rentals continue to soar and the movie falls under the psychological thriller genre. His first film ‘Shuddhi’ failed to turn a profit due to high theatre rental prices. Since he liked Zee5’s offer, Adarsh decided to go ahead with the plan.
His second venture has already recieved a lot of buzz after winning the Best Screenplay Jury Award at the 9th Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Award. The movie has no song or dance sequences. Jesse Clinton has composed the background score for the film.
