Bengaluru: In the wake of the spread of the novel coronavirus, JD(S) supremo and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda and his family reportedly paused the stage construction works for Nikhil Kumaraswamy’s marriage in Chennapatna.
According to JD(S) sources, the first family of the party is likely to opt for a simple marriage at the Bengaluru Palace Grounds.
Nikhil Kumaraswamy is marrying Revati, an engineering graduate who is a relative of Vijayanagara Congress MLA M Krishnappa. Their engagement was held recently.
JD(S) Ramanagar taluk unit president Rajashekar informed the media that former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy has asked that the stage construction works be paused for a few days. He, however, denied any proposal to shift the marriage venue.
According to sources in the JD(S), the authorised marriage invitations have not yet been sent for distribution. “The marriage is scheduled to be held on April 17. As lakhs of people are expected to gather, including foreign dignitaries, the Deve Gowda family is not ready to take any risk. Instead, the family is planning to hold the marriage at the Palace Grounds in Bengaluru,” sources informed.
