Mangaluru: Sandalwood superstar Darshan Thoogudeepa has been honoured with the Global Diversity Award by the United Kingdom Parliament for his contribution towards Karnataka’s art and culture through his movies.
Darshan, who is presently shooting for the upcoming film ‘Kurukshetra’, is the first South Indian and the fourth Indian to receive this award.
In a letter written to the actor, Virendra Sharma, British Member of Parliament, said “It’s a great honour and privilege to host you at the House of Commons, on October 19. We’ve decided to felicitate you, for the hard efforts you’ve put in through your movies to promote Karnataka’s art and culture.”
The event was organised by the UK Karnataka Business Chamber, London as part of its ongoing efforts to promote the art and culture relationship between the United Kingdom and Karnataka.
Other recepients of the award include A-listers such as Amitabh Bachchan, Jackie Chan, Shah Rukh Khan, and most recently Salman Khan.
The star was invited by British Labour Party MP Virendra Sharma in his personal capacity, to recieve the honour.
