Raichur: The CID has finally submitted a chargesheet in connection with the suspicious death of a 21-year-old fifth semester engineering student of the Navodaya Engineering College. The chargesheet rules out the rape and murder allegations levelled against the accused- Sudarshan.
According to reports, the chargesheet has made it clear that the student’s death is a suicide. The accused, however, has been charged with instigating suicide.
It can be recalled that the deceased went missing on April 13 and her body was found a few days later in a deserted area, hanging from a tree. As the body was found in a badly decomposed state, it was alleged that the girl was raped and murdered. A state-wide protest was launched by the students, forcing the state government to hand over the case to the CID.
The CID’s chargesheet runs into 1,068 pages and has testimonies from 63 witnesses. It has rejected the rape and murder theory and has instead pointed out that the girl suffered harassment at the hands of Sudarshan, who was in love with her.
“The CID has charged Sudarshan for harassing the girl and instigating her to take the extreme step,” said sources in the CID.
