Minister Sriramulu gets trolled for R-Day speech gaffes

Raichur: State health minister B Sriramulu has become the ‘talk of the town’ for his Republic Day speech on Sunday, January 26.

The minister, who was reading from a script, made several gaffes which have turned into a metaphorical treasure trove for “meme lords”.

Sriramulu, who is also the district-in charge minister of Raichur, in his speech, had mispronounced several Kannada words. Instead of saying ‘samajika nyaya’ (social justice) he said ‘smajika naai’ (‘naai’ in kannada means ‘dog’). Similarly, for ‘madari’ (example) he said ‘madhuri’, ‘udavane’ (take off) got pronounced as ‘ugrani’ (which can be meant as bomb launcher), ‘azaad’ (freedom) as ‘azaar’, ‘tantragyana’ (technology) as ‘tantraga’ and the biggest blunder was when he said ‘vaividhyathe illada desha’ (India is a country ‘without’ unity in diversity) instead of ‘vaividhyada desha’ (India is a country with unity in diversity).

He made many misses when recollecting historical facts and dates. Instead of saying, ‘we celebrate Independence Day on August 15’ he said ‘we celebrate Republic Day on August 15’.

In a matter of hours, his speech spread like wildfire on TikTok and other social media platforms. The minister was also trolled widely.
