Raichur: The Fire Brigade personnel, using a police boat, rescued 6 shepherds and 200 sheep on Thursday, August 30, who were stranded at Krishna River Island in Chinchodi Taluk of Devadurga District since August 29.
After learning that the water level is low in the river, 11 shepherds with their sheep had gone to nearby islands. But, in the afternoon, the Narayanapura Dam gates were opened and 1.05 cusecs of water was released, resulting in an increase of water level in the river.
It was only in the evening that the villagers got to know that the shepherds had gone to the island. Immediately, the villagers rescued five in the evening of August 29. As the raft was small, they could not carry all the shepherds and their sheep back.
The shepherds who remained on the island were provided with food and all the requirements that they needed to stay there for one night and were rescued in the morning of August 30.
