2,000 activists block roads, protest for IIT in Raichur

Raichur: Over 2000 activists belonging to different organizations and political parties blocked all major roads in Raichur and disrupting traffic movement for couple of hours, after receiving a bandh call by the IIT Horata Samithi.
Bike rallies were held ensuring that all shops and business establishments, except for medical shops and hospitals remained closed.

The activists staged demonstrations and burnt tyres raising slogans against the State and Union governments In Basaveshwara Circle and Ambedkar Circle.

The processions converged at Ambedkar Circle and the protestors formed a human chain, blocking roads completely for two hours.

Heavy police forces were deployed at all vital points to avoid any unwarranted developments.

Activist catches fire, hospitalised

An activist who caught fire while burning tyres at Basaveshwara Circle was hospitalised. The hospital sources said that his condition was stable.

IIT Horata Samithi president Basavaraj Kalasa, speaking to the media demanded that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah clarify his stand in the ongoing Assembly Session as to which side he is, Raichur or Dharwad.

“Let the Chief Minister say how many lives he wants and we are ready to give for IIT. If he continues to ignore the ongoing agitations, we will have to intensify our struggles. If anything untoward happens, Chief Minister will have to be held responsible,” he said.
