Madikeri: A flower show jointly organised by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat and Department of Horticulture was declared open at Raja Seat by Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Appachu Ranjan on March 9.
The statues and portraits of national leaders and renowned personalities along with those of animals and birds are sculpted by using flowers. More than 3000 flowers including carnations, lilies, marigolds and chrysanthemums employed for the show. A variety of flower saplings in 1500 pots are on display at the show. These included marigold, petunia, verbena, coleus, impatiens, celosia, dahlia and sunflower apart from a range of decorative flowers. Formula cars, toys and other attractive items are showcased to attract children for the 3-day show.
In nearby Gandhi Maidan, various stalls have been put up by the different government departments by Horticulture, Fisheries and Animal Husbandry.
Deputy Commissioner Sreevidya lauded the efforts and expressed her happiness at the event.
MLC Sunil Subramani along with elected representatives of local bodies and district administration officials were present on the occasion.
