Mangaluru: Taking a detour from his official visit to Bantwal, Karnataka Lokayukta Justice Dr. Vishwanath Shetty paid a surprise visit to Mangaluru Wenlock and Lady Goschen Hospital here on Friday, June 22.
Justice Shetty who arrived in Mangaluru on Thursday night for an official visit to Bantwal visited the two government hospitals and inspected problems.
A group of students from a hostel had come for a health checkup to Wenlock hospital at the time of Lokayuktas visit informed that they were there for a routine medical checkup. On noticing that the warden did not accompany the young students, the Lokayukta directed officials to send notice to district deputy director of education, officials of social welfare department and the hostel warden about the lapse.
Lokayukta also inspected theWenlock hospitals ICU, new building, and patient wards and collected information about treatment facilities available. Lokayukta inspector Bharati, district health, and family welfare officer Dr. Ramakrishna Rao, District surgeon Dr. Rajeshwari Devi among others accompanied the Lokayukta during the inspection.
At the Lady Goschen Hospital, many beds were found to be in the passages for want of space. Justice Shetty inquired the superintendent as to why were the patients not shifted to the new facility. Superintendent informed that pieces of equipment required at the newly built facility were yet to arrive. Hence the transfer of patients is being delayed, superintendent informed.
