Belgaum: CM Siddaramaiah held a meeting with lawyers here at Vidhan Soudha regarding Belgaum issue and approved the proposal to officially call Belgaum as ‘Belgavi’, the Kannada version of the city’s name on November 1.
“Belgavi belongs to Karnataka, no compromise on that”, said CM after meeting high officials along with cabinet ministers here on Friday.
Earlier Belgaum District Kannada Organisations’ Action Committee had urged the State government to get the Centre’s approval for renaming Belgaum as “Belagavi”, the Kannada version of the city’s name before the upcoming Rajyotsava celebrations.
