Madikeri: With the coming of the monsoon, the African Giant Snails have reappeared in the district. Of late, the invasive species have been a curse for the farmers as they eat the leaves and destroy the coffee plantations. Controlling the infestation and spread of these giant snails has become a headache for the farmers here.
Farmer ends life over non-payment of sugarcane bill
Belagavi: Yet another sugarcane farmer died due to the non-payment of dues by sugarcane factories. A debt-ridden Chinnappa Gangappa Amarapur (61) who had attempted suicide by consuming poison, breathed his last at the Civil Hospital in Veerpankopp village of Belagavi taluk on June 8.
