Exclusive varsity for cops soon
Belagavi: With the intent of training police personnel to crack modern-day crimes faster, the state government is envisaging setting up of an university exclusively for improving and inculcating modern methods of police investigation said state Home Minister R Ramalinga.
DSERT to train 50000 teachers
Dharwad: The Department of State Educational Research & Training (DSERT) is planning to train around 50,000 teachers in the state using modern technology, to enhance the knowledge and efficiency of teachers in their specialised subject and other subjects of their choice, under "Guruchetana" programme.
Women writers asked to raise voice against injustice
Dharwad: "It is unfortunate that only a handful of women writers have joined the Women Anti-harassment Federation which has been in existence for the last five years. It is the responsibility of the women writers to pitch their voice against the injustice meted to women in the community", stated Sabiha Bhumigoud, Vice-Chancellor of Akkamahadevi Women’s University, Vijaypura.

Govt orders inquiry into HDMC irregularities
Belagavi: Minister for Urban Development and Haj Roshan Baig has informed the Legislative Council on Monday that an inquiry by an official of the rank of Secretary would be initiated into the allegations of nexus between contractors, officials and council members in award of tenders in Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC).
