Shiv Sagar Hotel has become the talk of its town, Balaipade, with its altruistic initiative of distributing food and grocery kits to the needy. The proprietor of Shiv Sagar hotel has played a major role in distributing over 435 plus grocery kits.

In an interview with News Karnataka, Mr. Prabhakar Poojary said, “I had given such kits during the first wave as well. I’m simply continuing it this year too. A lot of people have been affected by Coronavirus near the areas of Kundapura, Kaup, Udyavara and Padubidri. We have supplied food kits to all these places.” He disclosed that he took up this initiative purely because it gives him happiness and satisfaction.

Speaking of the inspiration for his humanitarian work, Mr. Prabhakar affirmed that since he is also from Kapu, and hails from Garadi house therein, he understands the difficulties of the people residing there. He said, “there are many needy and impoverished ones. They don’t have a stable way of getting their bread. In addition to this, they’re adversely affected by the Coronavirus. I gave away supplies to around 200 such people last year in collaboration with the Yuva Samithi.” With the second wave of Covid 19 hitting this year, the proprietor of the famous hotel thought of providing grocery kits to such people once again. MLA Gopal Poojary also, had requested food kits and supplies to his jurisdiction, Byndoor, from Shiv Sagar Hotel.

Essentials supply to people in and around Kaup was carried out smoothly, the charitable man contended and said that so far he has distributed essentials worth Rs 3 lakh. “Byndoor and Kundapura areas, which are Gopal Poojary controlled ones, were also given food kits, but not out of any political pressure as such. Fortunately, it didn’t rain heavily until we were done with our deliveries. So we didn’t face any difficulties whatsoever,” Mr Prabhakar Poojary said.

The hotel industry has faced immense loss during the pandemic. Despite the financial backlashes, Mr Prabhakar has helped the deprived. Shiv Sagar hotel is currently recovering from the loss and has opened up to giving parcels. “The initiative just aimed at doing good and giving back to the community. The hotel was completely shut down. Now, we have not completely opened dine-ins, but we are providing parcels. Our staff members and their families have also been helped in whatever way possible. My aim is just to reach and help underprivileged people as much as I can,” the proprietor asserted.

These magnanimous thoughts more often than not, drive to bring in hope and an optimistic lens to view the future a little differently. With the third wave of Coronavirus predicted to hit the state sooner than expected, such philanthropic thoughts are much needed in the society to help build a better place to live in.
