UAE: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Consulate General in New York, USA has announced that it will be evacuating all UAE citizens from the US state of Florida in view of an approaching hurricane.
A tweet posted from the UAE Consulate General’s official Twitter account urged UAE citizens to work with the authorities in order to evacuate the region promptly. It also stated that citizens should call the UAE Consulate General in New York at (646) 630-2575 or the UAE Embassy at (202) 431-5530 if they have not already received a call from UAE officials.
The hurricane (dubbed “Hurricane Dorian”) has been classified as a Category 4 storm and is said to be extremely dangerous. It is currently bearing down on the Northwestern Bahamas and is expected to hit Florida’s east cost soon.
Florida residents, along with tourists visiting Disney World and President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, are expected to get caught in the crosshairs of the hurricane.
The US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) has warned that hurricane-force winds (extending outward up to 48 km from the centre) and tropical-storm-force winds (extending outward up to 168 km) are accompanying the storm.
Although the NHC said that its meteorologists were unsure if Hurricane Dorian would strike Florida or merely brush past its coast, computer-simulated models showed the hurricane turning northward and making landfall in Florida.
