Dubai: Budding singing talents from Mangaluru living in the UAE participated enthusiastically in the sixth season of the UAE level – Gulf Voice of Mangalore (GVOM) competition on May 11.
In the preliminaries held at the Fortune Plaza Hall, AL Quises on Friday, 19 female singers and 19 male singers competed in an exciting vocal battle. At the end of the rounds, the jury selected 6 singers from both the categories to advance to the semifinals to be held later this year.
The program was inaugurated by lighting of the traditional lamp by the guests. Chairman of Merit Freight Shipping Joseph Mathias, Director of Fortuna Engineering Mark Denis, senior members of Mangalore Konkans Paul D’Almeida, Lawrence D’Almeida, result committee coordinator Ronald D’Souza, GVOM coordinator Roshan D’Silva and Mangalore Konkans chairman James Mendonca were the guests.
Famous vocalist Anitha D’souza, ace musician Ramiro Mascarenhas, singer, musician Patrick Pereira and poet, artist, lyricist Ajith Peter D’Souza were judges of the preliminaries. They gave few useful tips to the singers and judged the them without any bias but, justifying the true talent.
Roshan D’Silva conducted the prize distribution ceremony. Music for the event was provided by DJ Lancy. Chairman James Mendonca presented the vote of thanks. Floyd Kiran welcomed and compered the program. Members of Mangalore Konkans supported James Mendonca in presenting the program in a beautiful way. Hundreds of music lovers and supporters of participants were present at the preliminaries.
