Qatar: The Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC), a socio-cultural organisation, reached out to its community with a noble initiative by organising a blood donation campaign on Friday, November 23 at the Hamad Medical Corporation Blood Donor unit. It was held from 8.30 AM to 12.30 PM and witnessed a good turnout of donors. This campaign received an enthusiastic response from its own members as well as those of the community. Different nationalities came together to join this noble cause as a holistic service to the community and Qatar.
President Sunil D'Silva welcomed the gathering and introduced Consultant Anesthetist Hamad Medical Corporation and Deputy Director of Critical Care Al Wakra Hospital, Dr. Ranjan Maxim Mathias, who gave a talk on the benefits of blood donation. Joint Cultural Secretary Shaila Menezes presented him with a flower bouquet.
Dr. Ranjan shared some useful information about the benefits of blood donation and the importance and need for donating blood. Every healthy person can donate blood once again in three months' time, he said. He then spent some time clearing the doubts of the potential donors.
The president and committee members set an example by donating blood and invited many of their friends and colleagues to join the drive and witnessed a registration of 85 volunteers, out of which 56 donated their blood after the check-up.
Prominent members from the community and other Karnataka club presidents and leaders were in attendance at the campaign. Hamad Medical Corporation then presented the Mangalore Cricket Club and donors with certificates of appreciation.
The president thanked all the MCC members, volunteers and donors for their noble deed of saving lives through blood donation and for making this campaign a success.
