Even with the seclusion of the country of Sri Lanka on the world map, this small island country off the southern coast of India is an amazing place to visit.

Owing to its amazing landscapes, rich history, and diverse culture, it attracts quite a lot of tourism the entire year around. But, while the majority of the people tend to visit the common tourist destinations when in Colombo, there are quite a few places in the country that is a complete treat to be in.

With the gradual growth of proper connectivity with the entire world with its Bandaranaike International Airport, it is not a hard job now to tick off Colombo from your bucket list (if you have it). If you want to save your coins in booking flights from Dubai to Colombo, from India, from Singapore, or from any other country from around the world, ensure that you are booking the tickets a minimum two to three months prior to your journey date.
All that being said, let us go through some of the major attractions around Colombo that will captivate you and make you not want to leave the place for good.

Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara

This is one of the most popular and culturally diverse Buddhist temples in Colombo. It is located at a mere distance of 7 miles from the main city of Colombo and is famous globally for its magnificent and intricate sculptor’s art. If you are there, make sure to visit the vaulted grill which opens up to the lower patio of the yard of the temple.

Casino Marina

Visiting Colombo and not visiting a casino doesn’t really sit well together. The Casino Marina is one of the newest additions to the whole gambling scene in Colombo and is regarded as one of the best in the lot. Built around with 4 distinct floors designated to separate group of people, this is everything that can enhance and boost your entire gambling experience.

Attidiya Bird Sanctuary
Let us talk a bit about nature and the beautiful Attidiya Bird Sanctuary that is a heaven on earth for all the bird watchers. This is home to over 50 different species of birds and not just native but migratory as well which is what adds to the whole experience even further. This sanctuary is specifically pointed out for its rich biodiversity. It is located at Boralesgamuwa which is in Colombo.

Arugam Bay Beach
Yet another favourite tourist spot is the Arugam Bay Beach which is a bit far from Colombo (around 320 km away) but totally worth the journey. If you are in Colombo, visit this beach to break free of all the norms and mundane things that drag you down in your day to day life. Once there, make sure to gorge on the delectable food that is served by the Tsunami hotel.

Colombo is a much-underappreciated place on its own. While you are there, try and make every moment count and start by exploring the places that not many are going to even think about. Breathe in the ecstasy that this place brings you.
