Qatar: The Karnataka Sangha Qatar (KSQ), a socio-cultural forum, associated with the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) under the aegis of Embassy of India, very recently celebrated the Kannada new year- Vasanthotsava with pomp and gaiety at the Delhi Public School auditorium.
Vasanthotsava, an annual signature event of the KSQ witnessed a variety of cultural and entertainment programmes which enthralled the audience.
The key attraction of the event was the presence of a very famous cine star Anant Nag along with his actress wife Gayatri Nag who graced the occasion as the special guests of honour. They were accorded a traditional welcome at the event.
As they lit the lamp to commence the programme, a welcome song was sung by the members. The welcome song was composed by KSQ’s Cultural Secretary Ashwin P Kumar for which H K Madhu had penned the lyrics.
KSQ members presented a medley dance before the guests from their hit movies which got a rousing applause. Both the stars were felicitated during the public function in which Anant was awarded with the “KALABHINAVA RATNA” title. During the day, they visited the children at the free coaching class where Kannada is being taught, and appreciated the efforts of KSQ in its efforts to teach Kannada to the children.
“Nenapinangaldalli”, a journey through the memory lane of star couple Anant and Gayatri was made an interesting interactive session by the anchor as well as the public posing questions to the duo. Anant rendered a very popular “Bhagyada Lakshmi Baramma…” song on demand for a thunderous clapping.
Beat Guru’s musical troupe gave a sensational presentation in two segments that made the audience groove near the stage. Ananya Bhat, a young talented playback singer who is also a film fare awardee, kept the audience engaged with hit numbers. She rendered a folk song to which the women members presented a Desi dance. Another folk form Tiger dance by ATS employees roared through the auditorium .
Shruthi Purushottam, Third Secretary (Commercial) from the Embassy of India was the Chief Guest for the event. KSQ President Venkata Rao welcomed the gathering. Ravi Shetty, Vice-President proposed a vote of thanks. Arun Ullal flew from Mangaluru just to anchor the event.
