Oman: A worker from Kerala was fired by his employer for his insensitive comments on social media over the emergency rescue and relief operations in the flood-affected Kerala.

Rahul Cheru Palayattu, who worked as a cashier at Lulu Hypermarket in Bousher, Muscat, is the man terminated from the job.

Poking fun at a query by someone on Facebook about the requirements for sanitary napkins, Rahul had replied asking if condoms were needed too. Following an outrage over the offensive remarks, the comment was later deleted.

Taking serious note of the incident, Lulu Hypermarket terminated Rahul from his job. Explaining the reason for his termination the company’s HR Manager in Oman wrote, “This is to inform that we have terminated your service with immediate effect because of your highly insensitive and derogatory comments on social media with regard to the current flood situation in Kerala, India. You are hereby instructed to handover all your official responsibilities to your reporting Manager immediately and to contact the Accounts Department for your final settlement.”

In the meantime, Rahul went live on Facebook on Sunday and apologised for his despicable comment. He claimed that he was intoxicated and was not in his senses when he wrote the comment. “I am really sorry for what I did. I was drunk. I may lose my job. I promise that I will not do such things ever again,” he said apologetically.
