Washington DC: The members of VSNA, a Kannada community in Washington DC, hosted a program on the occasion of Basava Jayanti on May 5.
The Washington DC Chapter presented classical Bharatnatyam and semi-classical dances that were choreographed by Dance Guru Krutika Hiremath. The dances that were performed were in praise of Lord Shiva.
The dances were titled ‘Shiva Stuti’- performed by little girls between the ages of 4 and 8, ‘Shiva Stotram and Cosmic Tandava’- performed by 6 year old boys Rishaan Pillay and Srihaan Satish. The performances left the audience stunned and enthralled.
Shiva Dhyana a classical Bharatnatyam dance was performed by Dance Guru and Choreographer Krutika Hiremath and her students Saanvi Siddhi and Riya.
The other highlights of the event were the kids reciting vachanas and explaining them and the telecasting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent speech on Basaya Anna, to promote the culture, history and importance of Basava Jayanti.
The program was attended by about 250 Kannada families residing in and around Washington DC.
