Abu Dhabi: The India Social and Cultural Centre, Abu Dhabi, on June 21, celebrated the sixth International Day of Yoga for global peace, harmony and wellness. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s event was celebrated in a different way under the theme “Yoga at home and Yoga with Family”, on a virtual platform instead of the park.
The programme began at 7.45 pm with a video message from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A video of the ISC’s relief activities during the COVID-19 pandemic and humanitarian service to the community was played before the programme.
More than 300 people attended the webinar from various parts of the world and the programme was live-streamed on the ISC’s Facebook page to reach the maximum number of viewers. Considering the present situation and the relevance of yoga for wellness, many expressed their gratitude for organising this event. Also, many appreciated the way the event was organised and different sessions demonstrated by renowned yoga gurus of the capital city of Abu Dhabi.
A video message by Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, Govt. Of India V. Muraleedharan was also played on the occasion, followed by a message from the Chairman of ISC, Padmashree awardee, Dr. Yousuf Ali M.A, Chairman and Managing Director of Lulu Group International.
President of ISC Yogish Prabhu K. addressed the gathering.
The Yoga program started with Shanti mantras by master Aprameya Aithal, followed by a video on Yoga protocols from PM Modi. General Secretary of the ISC Jojo J. Ambooken delivered the welcome speech.
The various yoga sessions were conducted by Dr. Ramadas has conducted “Surya Namaskar”, Nayana has conducted “Asana”, Namrata Nanda has conducted “Face Yoga”, Lokesh Hegde has conducted “Pranayama”, Indumathy Madhav has conducted “Concentration and Meditation”, and Naser al Riyami (UAE National) has conducted “Laughter Yoga”.
The Yoga programme was concluded by 10 pm with a vote of thanks by Hon. Asst. General Secretary of ISC C. George Varghese. Entertainment Secretary of the ISC Jayapradeep K.P introduced the compere of the event- Dr. Aparna.
The India Social and Cultural Centre, Abu Dhabi, Pravasi Bharathiya Samman Awardee, established in 1967 is the premier Socio-Cultural Centre in Abu Dhabi.
